What’s that in sheets?

People often ask questions about getting a newspaper job printed in terms of sheets of newsprint. In newspaper printing, these sheets are referred to as rolls or webs. At Linco, using sheets to describe your job is not a good way to go about things unless you want to confuse the sales person and/or the pre-press department. Keep it simple and explain what you want in terms of  pages, paper roll size, and content format. Below are examples of what to order, followed by what you’ll get. Keep in mind that these sizes represent flat unfolded paper sizes. In reality, all newspaper jobs come off the press folded.

Newspaper Poster Sheetsize
2 page, 33″, newspaper poster = 22.5″ x 33″ 1 page per side. (This is a full sheet.)

Standard Sheet Size
2 page, 33″, standard = 16.5″ x 22.5″, 1 page per side. (This is a half sheet.)

4 page, 33″, standard = 33″ x 22.5″, 2 pages per side. (This is a full sheet.)

8 page, 33″, standard = 33″ x 22.5″, 2 pages per side. (This is two full sheets.)

Tabloid Sheet Size
4 page, 30″, tabloid = 22.5″ x 15″, 2 pages per side. (This is a half sheet.)

8 page, 30″, tabloid = 22.5″ x 15″, 2 pages per side. (This is a full sheet split in two)

12 page, 30″, tabloid = 22.5″ x 15″, 2 pages per side. (This is a full sheet split in two + a half sheet)

16 page, 30″, tabloid = 22.5″ x 15″, 2 pages per side. (This is two full sheets split in four)

What is your turn around time?

Newspapers = 24 hours if the files are approved for press upon receipt by prepress

Posters/cards = 2-3 Business days*

Magazine = 4-5 Business days*

Books = 14+ Business days*

Reconstruction of Borden Avenue Bridge

If you are driving to our company from the Long Island Expressway (495), you will no longer be able to reach our company via Borden Avenue. After you pass Van Dam Street please look out for detour signs on streets turning right. Please read the notice below from the NYC Department of Transportation.

New York City Department of Transportation will close the Borden Avenue Bridge through June 2009. The bridge closure will require detour routes for all vehicles.

TO MANHATTAN (WESTBOUND):
TRUCKS over 12′ – 10′: Use the Borden Avenue Detour turning right on 30th Place and left on Hunters Point Avenue (49th Avenue). Make left on 27th Street, right on 51st Avenue and left on 25th Street to return to Borden Avenue.

ALL OTHER VEHICLES: Use the Borden Avenue Detour turning right on 30th Place and left on Hunter Point Avenue (49th Avenue). Make left on 25th Street to return to Borden Avenue.

TO QUEENS (EASTBOUND):
ALL VEHICLES: Use the Borden Avenue Detour turning left on 25th Street, right on 51st Avenue and left on 27th Street and continue to 49th Avenue (Hunters Point Avenue). Make right on 49th Avenue (Hunters Point Avenue) and right on 30th Street to return to Borden Avenue.

NOTE:
Detour signs will be posted along the detour route.

How do you count pages?

We’re really surprised at how many people ask us how we count pages. At times they’re adamant about explaining how many pages they’d like to print by telling us how many sheets of paper and folds there are.

Keep it simple. Count pages as you would number them. It’ll save everyone from a great deal of stress.

How do I get to Linco by subway?

Take the 7 train to the Hunter Point Avenue station. It’s the second stop in Queens coming from Grand Central Station. (Please check New York City Transit Service Advisory for the 7 line before you take the subway.)

Both exits from the Hunters Point Avenue station will lead you to Hunters Point Avenue or 49th Avenue. If you look down the street east, you should be able to see the top of the Empire State Building. Walk along the sidewalk towards the Empire State Building until you reach the corner of the block at 49th Avenue and 21st Street. Make a left and walk across 49th Avenue towards the mailbox.

You should see three “Do Not Enter” signs, one on a pole and two overhead on the ramp to the Midtown Tunnel . (Don’t worry about the signs, they’re for cars.) There’s a path past the Do Not Enter sign on the pole that leads underneath the Midtown Tunnel ramp to stairs for a foot bridge that goes over the Long Island Rail Road tracks.

51st Avenue is at the bottom of the stairs of the foot bridge. Go left and follow 51st Avenue until you reach 23rd Street. You’ll know you’ve reached 23rd Street when you see the Metro Group building. Make a left. The entrance to Linco is directly across from Metro Group. Take the stairs to the 2nd floor. At the top of the stairs, take the door on the left for sales and pre-prepress. The door to the right will take you to accounting.

Where are you located?

Our building is located on 23rd Street, between 50th Avenue and 51st Avenue in Long Island City (Queens), NY next to the entrance of the Midtown Tunnel and FreshDirect’s 5,850-square-foot LED display.
